Managing Your Golf Game - Television Series - December 2005
By David La Pour

Having played golf for 35 years, 18 of them as a professional, I have had the honor and opportunity to learn about this great game. Life lessons aside, I've been lucky enough to work with many different people in all walks of life who also have a passion for the game. From beginners, juniors, experts, celebrities, and even tour players, the one thing they all seem to have in common (self included) is the desire to get better.

When you combine this desire to get better with the game of golf you start to get an interesting problem. The game's margin of error is very small and unbiased (non-emotional) while golfers seem to have an unlimited supply of errors and have been known at times to be emotional. In my opinion, the first step in improvement is realizing the very small margin of error and how to minimize our error (mistakes). Over the years I have come to call this "managing your error".

One of my goals as an instructor is to get the student to manage their error in order to give them the best chance for success. Sometimes during a lesson I will refer to this as empowering your game, which involves having good technique (science) along with practical application (art).

During the months of September and October I filmed 15 instructional shows designed to show people how to manage their golf game. Five putting, five short game, and five full swing, the series will be televised starting in December on local cable in the Twin Cities and run through March. Check the press release below to see the times and if you don't get a chance to view them you can purchase the DVD's at the Oak Marsh golf shop or on my web site starting in January. Have a great holiday season and I'll see you at the club!
